California University of Pennsylvania Spanish Professor

 

Dr. Iraldo O. “Raldo” Parascenzo, Ph.d age 90 of Canonsburg passed away peacefully on Saturday July 16, 2016 in his home with his beloved wife by his side. He was born February 20, 1926 in Muse, a son of the late Umberto and Virginia Butti Parascenzo. Dr. Parascenzo lived his entire life in the Muse and Canonsburg areas. He was Catholic and attended Holy Rosary Church in Muse and was a 1943 graduate of Cecil High School. Dr. Parascenzo was a gifted musician and played saxophone and the clarinet in both the Russ Romero and Lee Barrett Orchestras.

He proudly served with the United State Army in the European Theatre during World War II.

He was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh where he received two Masters Degrees in History and Language and received his doctorate degree in Spanish in Mexico.

Dr. Parascenzo was a professor of Spanish at California University of Pennsylvania from 1965 until 2004 where he served as the Chairman of the Modern Language Department.

He was a member of the VFW Post 191 in Canonsburg and the American Legion Post 902 in Houston and the Muse Independent Club where he served as Secretary/Treasurer for 41 years.

On September 27, 1980 he married Dollie V. Shaffer who survives.

Surviving in addition to his wife is one daughter Fernee’ (Phillip) D’Antonio of Peters Township and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He was the last of his immediate family.

Deceased in addition to his parents are his sister Savina Mazzotta and Brother Albert B. “Dino” Parascenzo.

 

Friends are welcome from 6-8p.m Monday, July 18, 2016 and 2-4 & 6-8p.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2016 in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra FD owner/supervisor, Lin Webb funeral director, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, PA 724-745-8120 where services will be held at 10am on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 with Rev. George W. DeVille, pastor of Holy Rosary Church of Muse, officiating. Interment with full military rites by VFW Post 191 Honor Guard and the United States Army will follow at 11:00am at the Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township.
