John Pavlik, Jr., 89, of Canonsburg passed away on Friday, June 3, 2016 in the Washington County Health Center, Washington.

He was born on August 1, 1926 in Canonsburg, a son of the late John and Elizabeth Karsnak Pavlik, Sr.

On November 24, 1951 he married his beloved wife, Gertrude Turco Pavlik, who survives.

John proudly served his country from 1944-1946 with the United States Army during World War II.  After his time in the service, he began working at Pennsylvania Transformer.  After many devoted years, he retired in 1988.

He was a member of the SNPJ Lodge 138 in Strabane, the American Legion Post 902 in Houston, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 in Canonsburg.  John enjoyed golfing and had fifteen holes-in-one.  He also enjoyed bowling and had bowled a perfect 300 game.  He had bowled for the SNPJ City and County Leagues.  John was very athletic and had played football for the Washington League and had also played baseball for the Transformer.

Also surviving are three loving daughters, Celeste J. (the late David) Falvo of Washington, Cynthia J. (John D.) Bentrem of Hickory, and Christine J. Pavlik of Gordo, Alabama; four grandchildren, Joshua (Donna) Falvo of Washington, Jason Falvo of Washington, Kara (Michael) Martin of Canonsburg, and Joshua Bentrem of California state; five great grandchildren, Dominic Falvo, Dylan Falvo, Derek Falvo, Adria Martin, and Michael Brooks Martin; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and son-in-law, he was also preceded in death by three brothers, John, Elmer, and George Pavlik, and three sisters, Elizabeth Ducsay, Ann Bernardi, and Mary-Irene Kovatch.  He was the last of his immediate family.

Friends are welcome from 2:00-7:00 PM on Monday, June 6, 2016 in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor, Lin Webb funeral director, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg 724-745-8120 where a funeral service will begin at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 with his grandson Rev. Joshua Falvo officiating.  Interment, with full military rites accorded by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 Honor Guard, will follow at 11:00 AM in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Twp.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1100 Liberty Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15222 www.alz.org.
