Roberta M. (Schurr) Tomsic

Roberta M. Tomsic, 92, of Canonsburg passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 5, 2016 in her home.  She was fondly referred to as “Bert” and “Ziggy”.

She was born on May 24, 1924 in Washington, a daughter of the late Herman and Olive Irene Walker Schurr.

On July 23, 1949 she married her beloved husband, John T. Tomsic, who passed away on July 29, 1997.

Mrs. Tomsic was a long-time resident of Strabane and relocated to Canonsburg in 2005.  She was a member of the Canonsburg United Presbyterian Church.  She was also a member of the SNPJ Lodge 138 in Strabane and a member of the Women’s Auxiliary at Canonsburg Hospital.  Ziggy had worked for Andy’s Tire for over 20 years as a Secretary.  She had also worked for L & M Flower Shop and Malone’s Flower Shop for many years. 

In her youth, Mrs. Tomsic enjoyed ice skating.  She also enjoyed golfing and bowling.  She had bowled with the SNPJ Bowling League and other leagues in the area.  Bert also enjoyed playing gin rummy.

Surviving are two children, Sandra Lee (William) Tustin of Hickory and Wayne (Lynn) Lugaila of Montana; five grandchildren, Michele Tustin, Stacey (Brian) Bukoski, Jill (Ashley) Orris, William (Angie) Tustin, and Jackie (Dan) Harris; 13 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.  Also surviving is a special great-great nephew, Dom; Rosemary Lugaila, whom she loved very much; and Darlene Harris, who was her caretaker, chauffer, traveling companion, and devoted friend.  Darlene was always there for her with a smile for her "Girly Girl".

Deceased, in addition to her parents and husband, are three brothers, Fred Schurr, George "Bud" Schurr, and Edward "Bussie" Schurr; and two sisters, Hilda Germovsek and Marguarite Walters.  She was the last of her immediate family.

Mrs. Tomsic will be sadly missed by her loving family and her many, many dear friends.

Friends are welcome from 2:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor, Lin Webb funeral director, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg 724-745-8120 where a funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 with Rev. Don Coleman officiating.  Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.
