Arthur R. Talpas, 90 of Canonsburg passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 7, 2018 in his daughter’s home surrounded by his family.
He was born on April 3, 1928 in Strabane to Martin and Verona Hostinsky Talpas who preceded him in death.
On May 20, 1950 he married Dorothy Sohyda who passed away on July 25, 2004.
He is a veteran having served his country in the United States Navy during WWII.
Arthur had a strong work ethic and always provided for his family. He was employed at Forbes Steel as a Steelworker until his retirement. He also sold Fuller Brushes for many years.
Mr. Talpas was a faithful member of the Dormition of the Blessed Virgin Mary Russian Orthodox Church in McKeesport where he served as President of the Church.
He had many hobbies and interests which included playing softball and pool with his buddies. He was a member of the SNPJ and enjoyed polkas.
Arthur is survived by his children, Gary Talpas (Pam) of Canonsburg, Darrell Talpas (Tammy) of Freemont, Ohio, Mark Talpas (Carol) of Stafford, Virginia, Nina Strickland (Mike) of Knoxville, Tennessee, Ksenia Kwasniewski (Gordon) of Burgettstown, a sister Margaret Banish of Houston, fourteen grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Helen Gonglik and brothers Edward, John, Martin and Joseph Talpas.
Friends are welcome from 4~8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 and from 2~8 on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra, LFD, owner/supervisor and Darla A. Tripoli, LFD, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120 where a Parastas service will be held on Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 11, 2018 in St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, with Archpriest Father Dimitri D. Ermakov officiating, 601 Boone Avenue, Canonsburg. Anyone wishing to attend the funeral service, PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH. Interment will follow in Oak Spring Cemetery, Oak Spring Road, Canonsburg where full military rites will be accorded by the VFW Post 191 and the United States Navy Honor Guard.
