Carl H. Stopperich Jr.

Carl H. Stopperich, Jr., age 79, of Houston, passed away peacefully in the home of his devoted daughter, in Canonsburg. He was born June 18, 1946, in Houston, a son of the late Carl H. and Georgetta Wright Stopperich, Sr. Carl lived in the Houston area for the past 28 years and prior to that many years in Muse. He was agraduate of Chartiers Houston High School class of 1964, where he excelled in wrestling, football and baseball. He then proudly served with the United States Army in Vietnam, being honorably discharged in September of 1968. While working in the steel mill, Carl attended Penn State University and the Pittsburgh Bible Institute, where he deepened his Christian faith. He later received a degree in Psychology from Washington & Jefferson College Prior to his retirement, Carl had been employed as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor with Washington/Greene County Drug and Alcohol Commission. During that time, he helped establish the Washington County Treatment Court. In addition to being a faithful reader of the Bible and Christian faith-based history books, Carl was very much an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and taking drives down back country roads. He loved amateur wrestling, be it college or any unprofessional matches, and enjoyed the show “Moonshiners” on television. On May 1, 1970, he married Sophia “Bunny” Oluich who passed away on November 29, 2023, after 53 years of marriage. Left behind to cherish his memory are his beloved children, daughter Nika Stopperich DeRosa and her husband Mark and son, Mark Carl Stopperich, both of Canonsburg; his brothers, Daniel (Sharon) Stopperich, and Wayne Clark, his sister Bertha (Chuck) Sekura; seven grandchildren Markus (Branigan) Stopperich, Micah Stopperich, Stasio Stopperich, Luke Stopperich, Abigail Stopperich, and Jiana DeRosa; two great grandchildren Mason and Camryn. Deceased in addition to his wife and parents is his son Sean Stopperich who passed away June 30, 1995, and brother Herbert Clark. Helping Carl through dementia/Alzheimer's the past several years, there is great appreciation for those who supported his care: Gallagher Hospice, Cecil Family Practice, Nika and Mark DeRosa, Mark Stopperich, Jiana DeRosa, and Nicole Knowlton.

Family and Friends are welcome from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Monday, February 2, 2026, at Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc. Joseph P. Salandra LFD owner/supervisor 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg (724)745-8120 where services will be held Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at 10 am with David Klineburger of Gallagher Hospice officiating. Full military honors accorded by the VFW Post 191 Honor Guard and the United States Army in the funeral home. Private interment will follow in Oak Spring Cemetery, Canonsburg.
