Deogracias “Chito” Ongjungco del Rosario, Jr., age 87, of Washington, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2026, at home surrounded by his family.
Born on May 2, 1939, in Manila, Philippines, to Deogracias S. del Rosario, Sr. and Rosario Ongjungco, Chito later made Belleville, New Jersey, his home. A graduate of Colegio de San Juan de Letran, he attended the University of Santo Tomas where he studied chemistry. He was given the nickname “Chito” by his mother and spent his young adult years caring for her while working at his father’s pharmacy.
After emigrating to the United States, he met the love of his life, Conchita Mondejar, in Queens, New York. He excitedly called home to tell his parents he had met a chemist whose nickname was “Chit.” Their paths joined in marriage in 1979. Together they raised their only son, Jonathan. Chito began his career as a postal clerk at the DV Daniels Distribution Center for the United States Postal Service in Kearny, New Jersey. Working the overnight shift, he tirelessly provided for his family and carefully saved so they could enjoy the life they built together.
A man of deep religious conviction, his name literally means “Thank God of the Rosary”. Chito lived his faith openly and instilled those values in his family. He loved basketball, told endless jokes, and was always the life of the party. He also never hesitated to host a fight night to watch his favorite boxer, Manny Pacquiao.
In 2019, Chito and Conchita moved to Pennsylvania to live with their son, Jon and his wife, Jenn. He tolerated their dog, Ruthie, who quickly discovered he was the most generous provider of table scraps, even when she blocked his path to lean closer to his best friend and wife, Conchita.
Throughout his life, Chito’s care for others never wavered. Even as his health declined, he continued to offer compassion and support in any way he was able. He was a strict but equally gentle father and devoted husband, who kept his family safe, secure, and without want.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Conchita; his parents, Deogracias Sr. and Rosario; and his siblings Lina “Leny”, Augusto, Oscar, Dr. Horacio “Ching”, Celia, Virgilio, Violeta “Lita”, and Raul, along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews he considered his closest childhood friends. He is survived by his son, Jonathan (Jennifer); his sister Esmerelda “Nilda”; and many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
