Dominick "Meech" DiMatteo

Dominick “Meech” DiMatteo, 87, of Canonsburg passed from this earth on Thursday, July 21, 2016.

He was born February 3, 1929 in Pietransieri, Italy, a son of the late Saverio Marco and Nunzia Anna DelVecchio DiMatteo, and grew up in Muse, PA.  He was a graduate of Cecil High School and resided his entire life in the Canonsburg area.

Mr. DiMatteo served honorably in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean War.

On January 4, 1964 he was united in marriage to his beloved wife, Grace Licata, at Mount Saint Peter’s Roman Catholic Church in New Kensington, PA, with whom he shared 52 ½ wonderful years.

He was a member of Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church in Muse Pa, Muse Independent Club, Knights of Columbus Canonsburg Council 3291, former Greater Canonsburg Lions Club, and the VFW 191 in Canonsburg.  He was an avid snow skier.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Robert (Linda) DiMatteo of West Chester and Michael (Renee) DiMatteo of Venetia; six grandchildren, Adam, Mark, Christopher, and Drew DiMatteo of West Chester, PA and Giavanna and Gino DiMatteo of Venetia; a sister, Stella Campana of Gaithersburg, MD; and many nieces, nephews, and God children.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, is his brother, Oriendo “Gent” DiMatteo.

Friends are welcome from 2-8 PM on Sunday, July 24, 2016 in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor, Lin Webb funeral director, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg (724) 745-8120 where departing prayers will begin at 11:50 AM on Monday, July 25, 2016.  A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12:30 PM in Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 246 Muse Bishop Road, Muse with Rev. George DeVille as Celebrant.  Interment, with full military rites accorded by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 Honor Guard, will follow at 2:00 PM in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Twp.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Washington Hospital Hospice, 155 Wilson Avenue, Washington, PA 15301.
