Donald R. "Chief" Jones

October 25, 1933 — March 30, 2020

Donald R. “Chief” Jones age 86 of North Strabane Twp. Passed away peacefully Monday March 30, 2020 in his home with his family by his side. He was born October 25, 1933 in Pittsburgh a son of the late John L. and Mary Sedorski Jones. Don left high school early to enlist and was a proud veteran of the Korean War where he served as a sergeant with the United States Marine Corp. as an Aircraft Engine Mechanic. He was a member of the American legion Post 175 in Washington and prior to his retirement was self-employed as Don Jones Construction for many years. Don attended Faith Presbyterian Church in Washington. Deceased in addition to his parents and his daughter Kimberley Clark who passed away November 16, 2014, is his adoptive mother Anna Miller. When he went to live on her farm at a young age he said he would never leave. On September 2, 1955 he married Mrs. Millers granddaughter Patricia J. Miller who survives after 64 years of marriage and he did pass away on the farm. Don was an avid gardener, loved animals and was known for his delicious mashed potatoes. Left behind to cherish his memory, in addition to his beloved wife are his daughter Lori Matthews and her husband Jerry of N. Strabane Twp., his son Donald Jones and his wife Beth of N. Strabane Twp. Eight grandchildren; Keely (Jon) Pizzuti, Logan Clark, Samantha(Corbin) Cline, Cody Melone, Don (Caroline) Jones, Brandon (Angela) Jones, Nicole (Brandon) Hetrick and Cory (Lacy) Jones and many great grandchildren, Don was the last of his immediate family. Deceased are his two brothers Elmer and Jack Jones.

Due to the situation with the COVID-19 a private family visitation and services will be held on Thursday April 2, 2020 in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc. Joseph P. Salandra LFD owner/supervisor 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120 Interment will follow in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Twp. where full military rites will be conducted at a later date.
