Elias Casillas

Elias Casillas, age 60 of Coal Center, formerly of Utah and Pegueros, Mexico passed away peacefully Friday, July 18, 2025, in the Presbyterian University Hospital, Pittsburgh following an extended illness. He was born October 25, 1964, in Pegueros, Mexico. Mr. Casillas was raised in Mexico and then migrated to California then Utah where he earned a degree in Refrigeration from Thermo King Technical School. He lived in Coal Center for the past 5 years. He loved fishing and was an avid soccer “football” fan, his favorite team being Club America. A man who never liked to sit down, Elias liked to work, whether it being an automobile mechanic, tending his garden or raising chickens. A devout Catholic, Elias was a faithful member of St. Oscar Romero Parish, Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, in Meadowlands. In January of 1993, he married his devoted wife Maria Del Socorro Gomez Ruiz, who he leaves behind after 32 years of marriage. Also left behind to cherish his memory are his beloved sons, Javier Casillas and his spouse Kenya of Sandy, Utah, Jorge Casillas and his spouse Aimee of Plain City, Utah and Jaime Casillas of Wilmerding, his grandchildren Elie, Mia and Jorge “JJ” Casillas Jr., his sister Angelita Casillas and her spouse Alvaro Gomez of Pegueros, Mexico, his brother Roberto Casillas of Omaha, Nebraska a niece Maria Ibarra and several other nieces and nephews. 

Friends and family are welcome for a viewing from 2 pm until 6 pm Tuesday July 22, 2025, at Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc. Joseph P. Salandra LFD owner/supervisor where departing prayers will be recited at 9:30 am Wednesday July 23, 2025. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Meadowlands. Interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, Canonsburg.
