Elva Jean Mundell

January 4, 1927 — November 12, 2023

Elva Jean Mundell, known as Jean age 96 of Lexington Kentucky, passed away peacefully Sunday, November 12, 2023 at the Willows. She was born January 4, 1927, in Masontown, a daughter of the late Arthur and Lucille Cannon. Jean spent her life in the Greensboro and Aliquippa areas and was a graduate of Aliquippa High School. On August 25, 1948, she married Wilbur “Rusty” Mundell, who passed away in 2011. Left behind to cherish her memory are her beloved children Douglas (Laura) Mundell of Pittsburgh, Gregory (Margie) Mundell of Bradenton, Florida and Laura Mundell Cutler of Lexington, Kentucky, Her ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Deceased in addition to her husband and parents is her daughter Deborah Dowler (John).  Jean and Rusty made a life for themselves in the Marine Corps, where Rusty was a career officer. Jean loved life in the Corps, the travel, being able to see places she otherwise may never have seen, and the fellowship, friendship, and support of fellow Marine Corps families. In the 1960’s after Rusty’s career in the Marines, they moved with their four children to Chillicothe Ohio. Jean worked for the city police department and for the judge before she became the sole proprietor of her own gift shop                                                                                                                              where she sold original pieces of jewelry made by Native American artists from New Mexico and Arizona. After retirement Jean and Rusty moved to North Port, Florida, where they lived for 20 years.  After Rusty’s death, she moved to Lexington, Kentucky where she spent the balance of her life close to her daughter, Laura.  Jean was playful, a practical joker with a straight face and a twinkle in her eye. She loved parties, reunions, bridge games, and poker. She loved to laugh, often at her own expense. She loved to dance. At her granddaughter’s wedding in 2009, when Jean was 89, she danced so much that she couldn’t walk on her swollen knee for a week. Most of all, Jean loved and was devoted to her family.
