Everett Roy "Ed" Heaton age 88 of Houston, passed away peacefully, Tuesday October 22, 2024, in his home with his family by his side. He was born August 10, 1936, In Milo Park, PA, a son of the late Mary Jane Heaton McClure and Everett Treadway. He was raised by his grandmother Lucy Mae Heaton and his stepfather was John McClure. Mr. Heaton lived in the Houston/Canonsburg area for 58 years and was a member of St. Oscar Romero Parish St. Patrick Church. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed as a Residential Services Supervisor and Recreational Therapist with Western Center for 35 years. Everett was a graduate of Allegheny High School, class of 1956. On October 18, 1958, he married the love of his life Gertrude Kathryn “Kathy” McDonough, who passed away November 14, 2019, after 61 years of marriage. He and his wife were professional dancers known as the “Dancing Sweethearts” and he choreographed performances with the drama departments of Canon McMillan and Peters Twp. High Schools. In his younger years he was a Community Scoutmaster with Boy Scouts troop 1320 in McMurray. Mr. Heaton was a volunteer EMT with the VFW Post 191 Ambulance Association in Canonsburg. Ed acted as an extra in many movies filmed in and around the Pittsburgh area. He loved musicals and he and Kathy subscribed to Pittsburg's CLO for decades. Ed was an avid collector of DVD movies and was the pet parent to 7 German Shepherd Dogs. Left behind to cherish his memory are his devoted children, Barry Lynn Misko of Houston, Edward David Heaton of Strabane and Mary Kathryn (John) Matelski of Atlanta Georgia, his two beloved grandsons, Jamison Andrew and Keenan Edward Matelski, brothers Edward Dwight (Etta), Ronald Frederick McClure, Paul (Lisa) Treadway and Richard (Lori) Treadway, sisters Carol Wagner, Judy Heck, Tina (Rich) Workman, Jane (Rex) Long and Jean Trogden and several nieces and nephews and his beloved dog Trudy. Deceased in addition to his wife and parents are three brothers John William McClure and Allen and George Treadway.
Family and friends are welcome from 2- 4 and 6-8 pm Sunday October 27, 2024, at SALANDRA FUNERAL and CREMATION SERVICES, INC. Joseph P. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am in St. Patrick Church 317 West Pike Street Canonsburg. Interment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Peters Twp.
