Frances Marie Starek

Frances Marie Starek 84 of Washington, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 6, 2025, in Concordia of Bridgeville. She was born June 2, 1941, in Canonsburg, a daughter of the late Zigmund and Frances Skedel Sobolewski. Frances was raised in Canonsburg and was a graduate of Canonsburg High School, class of 1959. Was a graduate of St. Francis School of Nursing in 1962 and earned her B.S. in Nursing from California University. She had been a faithful member of Immaculate conception Church in Washington. Prior to her retirement, Frances had been employed as a registered nurse at Washington Hospital for 44 years. Frances was a member of Washington Cruisers where she served as treasurer, enjoyed feeding the animals, especially her four cats, and was a volunteer at the Washington County Humane Society. She was a member of the Neighborhood House Auxiliary Association, had been active as a den mother is the Cub Scouts, home room mother and band parent for the Trinity High School Band. Frances enjoyed and looked forward to family and friends’ events. Always ready to help others and to help anyone who needed it. She will be missed by all who knew her. On November 9, 1963, she married John T. Starek Jr. who passed away May 29, 2016, after 52 years of marriage. Left behind to cherish her memory is her son Mark (Sue) Starek, her grandchildren, Alexandria Nicole and Stephen Daniel Starek and Harry Fisher, great grandchildren, Ariella Nicole and Alias Edward Fisher, brothers Zigmund (Carol) Sobolewski, Joseph (Barbara) Sobolewski, David (Diane) Sobolewski, sisters Nellie (Jerome) Koziak, Veronica (Howard) Harkins and Dolores Sobolewski (Ron Biondi), and several nieces and nephews. Deceased in addition to her husband is her son John T. Starek III who passed away May 24, 2022. Mrs. Starek’s family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Concordia of Bridgeville, Jennifer LPN for her exemplary care and to Hunter, Heather, Roxanne, Deliah, Tiffany, Tammy and Tonya for their compassion. Also, to Gallagher Hospice RN’s and nursing assistants for managing her care.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am Friday, December 12, 2025, in St Mary Church, Corpus Christi Parish 10 St. Mary’s Lane, Cecil. Interment will follow in St. Parick Cemetery, Canonsburg. Memorial contributions should be made to the Washington Area Humane Society 1527 PA-136, Eighty-Four PA 15330 or Alzheimer’s Research.
