Harriet Mae Martys age 96 of Canonsburg passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, Sunday June 5, 2022, in Donnell House, Washington. She was born July 6,1925 in Muse a daughter of the late John and Anna Marie Neiser Funka. Harriet lived in Canonsburg for 73 years, was raised in Muse and was a faithful member of St Oscar Romero Parish Holy Rosary Church. She taught Sunday School and was the CCD coordinator there for 25 years, organizing many Christmas pageants. She had been employed at the Intermediate Unit of both Washington and Allegheny Counties as a teacher’s assistant and at the daycare Learning With Harmony in Canonsburg. Harriet enjoyed oil painting, gardening and cooking. She just loved to take care of people and was the neighborhood mom where the kids all liked to gather. On May 7,1949, she married John Stephen Martys who passed away February 18, 1997, after 47 years of marriage. Left behind to cherish her memory are her devoted children, Helen Fries and her husband William W. of Canonsburg, John Martys and his wife Kathleen of Morgantown West Virginia, William Martys of Canonsburg and Carol Groom and her husband Mark of Lenoir, Tennessee, eight beloved grand children: Mikaela (Scott) Rickman, Erin Martys, Kristin Barnett, David (Mary) Martys, Bill (Emily) Fries, Carla (Nicholas) Shinner, Jeremiah (Jennifer) Groom and Jacob Groom, 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Harriet was the last of her immediate family. Deceased in addition to her husband and parents are two brothers, George E. and John F. Funka and her sister Ann Densen.

Friends and family are welcome from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Thursday, June 9, 2022, in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc. Joseph P. Salandra LFD owner/supervisor 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg, where departing prayers will be recited at 9:20 am Friday June 10, 2022. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am in St. Oscar Romero Parish, Holy Rosary Church in Muse. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.
