John George Piasente, age 88, of Meadowlands passed away on April 12, 2026, at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh after a brief illness. He was born on August 14, 1937, in Canonsburg to the late Fred Piasente and Margaret Cholak Piasente. John was a member of the St. Oscar Romero Parish – Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church in Meadowlands.

John graduated from Chartiers High School in 1955 and enlisted in the US Navy from 1957 to 1962 as a Cryptologic Technician Petty Officer 2nd class (CT2) officer. He was proud of his service with the Navy and enjoyed telling stories about his Navy service days to his friends and family. He was employed by the former McGraw Edison factory in Canonsburg as a transformer builder from 1962 until his retirement in 1991. He was also a skilled carpenter and built/remodeled houses in his spare time with his father and many friends throughout his younger years. John was married to Betty Jane Pyda on May 19, 1962, until her passing on May 17, 2011. John was an avid hunter and fisherman and spent a lot of his younger years hunting and fishing in the Allegheny National Forest area within Tidioute, Pa (Warren County) where he acquired numerous friends throughout the years. John was also an excellent cook and learned that trade from his parents of Italian descent while growing up and always enjoyed preparing meals for holidays and birthdays for family and friends.

John was a member of the VFW Post 191 in Canonsburg, the American Legion Post 902 in Houston, the Fraternal Order of Bears Club Den 83 (lifetime member) in Meadowlands and the Canonsburg Sportsman Club and other similar organizations in the Tidioute and Youngsville Pa region. If John was not at home and you wanted to locate him, you had an extremely good chance of finding him at one of these establishments where he had numerous friends to carry on conversations with and to recall memories of good times past. He was well liked by all those who interacted with him and will be deeply missed by all that knew him.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his sons John Piasente of Meadowlands and Scott Piasente of Washington; grandsons Jonathon Piasente/Sally of Millvale and Jordan Piasente/Erin of South Park; brother Joe Piasente (wife Joyce) of Washington; loving companion Joanna Renko of Meadowlands with whom he enjoyed spending his ‘golden’ years with along with her family (sons/daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren) along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. Deceased in addition to his parents is his sister Judith Long, niece Jodi Dufresne and nephew Tony Koontz.
