John “Jack” Holland of Canonsburg passed away on Sunday, November 19, 2023.
He was born May 3, 1940, in Midway, Pa, a son of John D. Holland and Mary J. (Capiola) Holland.
For 59 years he was married to Joyce A. (Hulpa) Holland, the absolute love of his life.
He attended McDonald High School, graduating in 1958. While attending high school, he participated on the football, baseball and track teams.
In 1959 Jack enlisted in The United States Army where he was a member of the 82nd Airborne, 325 Battle Group out of Ft. Bragg N.C. He served in Germany in the 8th Army Airborne 504th Battle Group. After he finished his tour of duty he was honorably discharged from the Army.
In 1962 he became a member of the Pennsylvania State Police where he served at the Greensburg, Kiski Valley, Pittsburgh And Washington PA barracks. Jack served as a trooper, criminal investigator, auto theft investigator and troop intelligence officer.
After retiring, in 1992, he worked for Brownlee Wiping Cloth in Washington, PA and later Schweinebraten Bus Lines as a van driver for special needs children.
Jack belonged to the American Legion (Houston PA), V.F.W. 191, Canonsburg Sportsman’s Club (lifetime member), Member of the National Trails Lodge 47 (retired state police association). National Fraternal Order of Police, served as a board member at the Washington Country Club and was a founding member of the Canon McMillan Quarterback Club. He also coached youth football and baseball in the Canonsburg area.
Surviving in addition to his wife Joyce are a son Mark W. Holland and daughter-in-law Kimberly. Two grandsons Jacob and Cole Holland, brother and sister in-law John and Gerry Melone and nephews Michael (Terri) and David Melone as well as several other nieces and nephews.
Jacks favorite things were spending time with his beloved wife and family. He found no greater joy than having family at his house to share food and drinks with. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Interment with full Military Honors by the VFW Post 191 of Canonsburg and the United States Army Honor Guard will follow in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies,, Bridgeville.
