Ligia C. Escobar

March 1, 1931 — January 21, 2021

Ligia C Escobar, 89, of Bogota Colombia S.A, passed on at home, to be with her late Husband Jaime Escobar, Thursday, January 21, 2021. She was born on March 1st, 1931. to the late Jorge Chaparro and Paulina Chaparro Galvis of Tunja, Colombia.

She was a 1952 graduate of The Institute of Design and worked for several years in Springfield, VA at the Woodward & Lothrop Building as a designer, in later years she retired to spend time with the family. She enjoyed designing her own clothes, making everything from basic outfits to full dresses.

Ligia enjoyed dancing and spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Left behind to cherish her memory are her three children; Jaime E Escobar, Jr of Gainesville, VA, and his children Alexandra and Stephanie; Mauricio Escobar and his daughter Catherine; Claudia (Charles) Eckenrode and her two children Ethan and Elena of Canonsburg; brothers Jorge and Jairo Chaparro; sister Rosalba Chaparro and several nieces and nephews. Deceased in addition to her husband Jaime and parents is her son Fernando J. Escobar.

Ligia eventually moved to Canonsburg, PA to live with her daughter after her late husband passed away in 2009. There she spent eight years in the loving care of her daughter, Claudia Eckenrode, who survives, to cherish her memory.

The family wishes to thank, Amedysis Hospice, of Washington, County, Dr. R. Plute of Canonsburg, and Salandra's Funeral Home for their awesome care of Ligia.

Psalm 30:11 "You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; you have loosened my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness."

Friends and family are welcome on Friday, January 29, 2021 from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra LFD, owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120. A mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Patrick worship site of St. Oscar Romero Parish, Canonsburg.

The family will follow with interment at Fairfax Memorial Gardens, Fairfax, Virginia.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic masks must be worn and social distancing will be observed.
