Margaret Banish

Margaret (Sis) Talpas Banish of Houston, PA, passed away peacefully on April 2nd, 2026, at the age of 95 in her home surrounded by her family.

Margaret was the daughter of the late Martin and Verona Hostinsky Talpas of Strabane PA.

Margaret was a member of St. Patrick's Church. She belonged to the Sokol Lodge and the Canonsburg Senior Citizens Center where she enjoyed being chairperson of the bingo program for more than 20 years and Friday night cards with her friends.

She was married to Bill Banish in 1952 in St. Patrick's Church. Surviving is one daughter, Laurie (Rodger) Hill of Idaho, and four sons, Jay (Donna), David (Kristin), Jim with who she made her home, and Chris and (Sylvia). 7 grandchildren, Amanda Jason, Matthew, Shawn, Jessica, Angelica, Victoria; 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was the last of her immediate family, preceded in death are siblings Helen, John, Martin Jr., Edward, Joseph, and Arthur.

Margaret will be remembered by many as an award-winning baker as many knew her as the “cookie lady”.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am in St Oscar Romero Parish St. Patrick Church, 317 West Pike Street Canonsburg, PA. Interment will be private to the immediate family.
