It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mark John Thornhill, age 61, of Brookline in Pittsburgh, PA, who died suddenly at his home on July 2, 2026. He attended Seton LaSalle Catholic High School and worked in many capacities over the years, especially in home renovation and trade work, including time with the Boilers Union and other local employers. He is survived by his sister, Stacy Peterson (Thornhill), her husband, Tim, and their children—his niece, Faith, and his nephew, Luke Peterson—as well as his longtime companion, Mary Ann Zehr. He was born to the late Margaret Thornhill (Rosso), who passed away on May 21, 2022, and was raised by Margaret and her second husband, the late James Thornhill, who passed away on April 27, 2019. He also leaves behind a circle of close, long‑term friends who meant a great deal to him.

Mark enjoyed golfing and bowling throughout his life. He found constant companionship in his beloved dog, Angel—a gift from his mother shortly before her passing, a gesture that reflected the deep bond they shared. Mary Ann lovingly describes Angel as his “co‑pilot,” accompanying Mark everywhere he went.

He will be laid to rest next to his mother in the cemetery of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church. Although no public service will be held, Mark will be lovingly remembered through Mass intentions: a Mass offered on his birthday, September 1, 2026, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Dayton, Minnesota, and additional Masses offered throughout the coming year at St. Pius X in Brookline and St. Catherine of Siena in Beechview, both part of St. Teresa of Kolkata Parish. Funeral arrangements are private and have been entrusted to Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra, Owner/Supervisor, 304 West Pike St., Canonsburg, 724‑745‑8120.

His family and loved ones will carry him in their hearts always. Online condolences may be shared through the funeral‑home website.
