Canonsburg

Mary Imperatore, born July 29, 1930, passed away peacefully at the age of 94 in the early hours of Saturday, July 26, 2025, at TownView Health and Rehabilitation Center in Canonsburg. Mary was born and raised in Wolf Run, Ohio, a small coal mining town, before making her home in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John R. Imperatore, her parents Joseph and Maria Lawrence, and her three brothers, Michael, Nicholas, and Andrew Lawrence. She is survived by her devoted son, John R. Imperatore of Canonsburg, her loving daughter, Susanne (Wesley) Harrison and grandchildren Ava and Ryan Harrison, all of Richmond, Virginia. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who brought her joy throughout her life. Mary worked for many years as a sales associate at Kaufmann's department store and also played an essential role in the Imperatore family business, contributing in many capacities at The Jefferson Room and Jefferson Lanes. Whether greeting customers or helping behind the scenes, she brought a strong work ethic to everything she did. She lived a life rich with simple joys. She loved doting on her grandchildren, solving word search puzzles, crocheting, bowling on area leagues, playing cards with her nieces and friends and lunching with the ladies of the neighborhood. She was especially known for her homemade nut rolls and Russian tortes—her home always brimming with treats, a reflection of her incredible sweet tooth. A woman of faith, Mary was a dedicated member of St. Oscar Romero Parish, St. Patrick's Church, where she actively participated in the Christian Mothers/Women’s Guild, the Funeral Luncheon Ministry, and volunteered for church festivals and fish fries.
