Maureen Zingerman

Maureen Scanlon Zingerman, 78, of Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at Townview Health & Rehab Center on September 28, 2026, in the presence of her children.

Maureen was born on June18, 1948 in Pittsburgh to the late William & Rita Scanlon. She was preceded in death by her sister, Kathleen Fillippa, and brother-in-law, John “Jack” Fillippa.

Maureen was raised in Brighton Heights and graduated from Bishop Domenec High School in 1966. During her teenage years, Maureen was a member of the Pittsburgh Girl Pop Group, The Pebbles, who recorded a record and performed at local events. Music was her lifetime passion, and she never stopped singing even when her children begged her to!

After high school Maureen attended and graduated from the Pittsburgh Beauty Academy and was a beautician off and on for many years. She also was a bridal consultant at a bridal shop in the former Jenkins Arcade in downtown Pittsburgh. In the late 1980’s Maureen began working as a claims adjuster for the State Workers’ Insurance Fund. After working for the Commonwealth for over 20 years, having been promoted to a supervisor during that time, she finally retired in 2008.

In 1997 Maureen married her second husband, Roger “Steve” Zingerman, who passed away in 2017. Together they enjoyed travelling, spending time with Steve’s grandchildren, and spoiling their beloved dog Davey.

As a single parent, Maureen devoted her life to her two children. She loved being involved in all of their interests and activities and always made everything the three of them did together a fun adventure. She was a dedicated “band Mom”, and for seven years she braved the sometimes-precarious heights of the announcer’s booth to be the voice of the North Catholic Marching Band. She was “Mom” or “Mauz” to all of the band kids and always adopted her kids’ friends as her own. Her home was open to all, and it was the house everyone always wanted to gather in.

Maureen is survived by her daughter, Heather Nowack Stover, and son, George “G.W.” Nowack, and her cherished and incredibly spoiled grand-dog, Potato McLaren Fitzgerald. She is survived by her nephews John (Kim) Fillippa, Thomas (Lori) Fillippa, and Patrick (Deirdre) Fillippa; grandnephews and nieces Corey (Jessica) Fillippa, Chelsea (Connor) Fillippa, Justin Fillippa, Taylor (Christian) Painter, and great-grandniece Sylvia Painter. She is also survived by her stepdaughters Cheryl (Randy) Zingerman and Olivia (Mike) Smith, and step-grandchildren Ashley, Madison, Nathan, Rebekah, and Aaron; and dozens of cousins, loved ones and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family would like to honor Maureen’s legacy by supporting teen programming at Chartiers-Houston Community Library. Donations may be sent to the library at 730 West Grant Street, Houston, PA 15342.
