Olga P. Povich age 90, a lifelong resident of Houston, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 1, 2025, in her home with family by her side. Olga was born Dec. 9, 1934, in Washington, PA, the daughter of the late Stephan and Mary Kopcha Petronka. She graduated from the Washington High School class of 1953. As a “Little Prexie” she was a majorette in the marching band for 3 years. Mrs. Povich was a member of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church in Canonsburg and the Nativity of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Church in Monongahela. She was an avid polka dancer. Olga was there, whether at a local or long-distance dancing event, acquiring her name “Polka Olga.” Olga and the late John were like skaters on ice together. Olga was also a member of the American Legion, VFW and Russian Club and frequented the SNPJ in Strabane for the button box music. Olga was a loyal patron for attendance at the annual Canonsburg 4th of July parade and festivities. Her favorites spot was at the SNPJ Beer Keg. She also liked to do the word searches, spending hours finding words. Olga worked part-time for her brother-in-law Dr. John Chupinsky, DDS dental office at the Trust Building assisting her sister Eva. She also was a cleaning professional for many families over the years. Olga married John C. Povich on May 21, 1955, and were married for 35 years, before his passing on March17, 1990. Left behind to cherish her memory are her devoted children, daughters -Tanya D. Pinegar of Lawrence, KS, Taisia Z. Thomason (Jack) of Olmsted Falls, OH; 2 sons - the late Michael S. Povich and John N. Povich (Terri) of Naples, FL.; her beloved Grandchildren - Bradley Pinegar (Whitney), Jaclyn Kana (Ryan), Wesley Thomason, Joshua and Jonathan Povich, (late) Jeffrey Romano, Julie Cruz (Matt), great grandchildren - Miller Pinegar, Adaline Kana, Olivia Cruz. She is also survived by her youngest brother Nick Petronka, brother-in-law, Dr. John Chupinsky, 2 sisters-in-laws, Geri Petronka, Linda Povich and many nieces and nephews. Deceased in addition to her husband John, son Michael, is her oldest sister Eva Chupinsky and brothers Pete, Frank, John Petronka and Michael Petronka, who died in infancy.
Family and friends will be received from 1pm until 4 pm Sunday, May 4, 2025,
at the Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc. Joseph P. Salandra LFD owner/supervisor 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg (724) 745-8120, where services will be held at 10:30 am Monday May 5, 2025. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.
