Orlando Campomizzi Jr.

July 4, 1956 — December 18, 2025

Washington

Orlando Campomizzi Jr. age 69, of Washington passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at home and quickly, as he always wanted. He was born on July 4, 1956, in Latrobe, a son of the late Orlando and Thelma Dayak Campomizzi, bringing additional fireworks to this world. Orlando proudly served with the United States Air Force as an Air Traffic Controller, with duty stations in Germany and Eglin Air Force Base, FL. For the last 17 years, Orlando had enjoyed retirement, spending his time on his vast expanse of hobbies. He was previously employed with the F.A.A, as an air traffic controller retiring out of Allegheny County Airport, West Mifflin, PA. Orlando never forgot a great meal, explaining in excruciating detail what to order, for the local dive specials, that he discovered while riding his Can-Am Spyder, alone or with the local Spyder’s club. Also, a connoisseur of all things tasty and sweet, Orlando knew the best bakeries, pastries, and sweet shops in the Tri-state area. His favorite being the Whoopie Pie. Although unconfirmed, he may have invented the dinner entrée of fried chicken with a side of lasagna. Infamous for his storytelling, he would explain the history and backstory of all the locally owned sweet shops. He cared deeply for people, of all walks of life. Orlando was active in multiple local churches, most recently East Buffalo Presbyterian Church. He spent several years supporting local charities including Neighbor to Neighbor, and various other veteran organizations. Carrying his service experience further, prior to his retirement in 2008, Orlando had been employed as an air traffic controller at Greater Pittsburgh Airport, Wheeling Airport and finally Allegheny County Airport in West Mifflin. He lived most of his life in Washington and was a member and very active at the East Buffalo Presbyterian Church, and the VFW Post 175. He enjoyed riding his Can-Am Spider, hunting, firearms, fishing and his cat Molly Cat. On Jan 25, 1986, he married the love of his life, Orlando is survived by his beloved best friend and wife, Jacqueline Knupp, who survives after 39 happy years together. Also left behind to cherish his memory are his beloved children Kevin A. (Kristen) Campomizzi of Newberry Florida and Stacie y (Tim) McMahon of West Mifflin, his favorite grand-baby granddaughters Alexandra and Nora June Campomizzi, his siblings, Sandra (Don) Leese, Danny (Rocky) Campomizzi, Donnie (Wendy) Campomizzi, Cindy (Scott) Latchford, Jody Campomizzi and Davey (Lynn) Campomizzi and several nieces and nephews.
