Pearl A. Carter

February 22, 1932 — January 29, 2022

Pearl A. Carter age 89 of Canonsburg passed away Saturday, January 29, 2022 in Townview Health and Rehabilitation Center. Pearl was born in Canonsburg on February 22, 1932, and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Florence Porcaro whom immigrated to Canonsburg from Rosello, Italy. Pearl graduated from Canonsburg High School and was a member of Holy Rosary Church of St. Oscar Romero Parish in Muse. During her life, she worked at RCA Corporation, Canonsburg Hospital and Feno’s Market. On June 25, 1955, she married Gene P. Carter who passed away on May 31, 2018. She leaves behind three beloved children: her devoted daughter, Gloria J. Buckels (Kent) of Canonsburg; Robert A. Carter (Lori) of Clermont Florida; and Terry J. Carter (Tammy) of Hinsdale, Illinois. Also surviving are her three cherished sisters: Loretta Kulakowski, Rena Patrick and Rose Marie Vidmar (John), all of Canonsburg.

Pearl was known as "Nana" by her seven grandchildren, Kelly Quidley (Eric), Shelly Witzel (Adam), Jon Carter (Dana), Talbot, Tanner, Truman and Turner Carter. Pearl, affectionately known as “Old Nana,” was also blessed with four great-grandchildren, Emma, Ella, Ava and Arlen Quidley. Aunt Pearl will also be missed by many nieces and nephews. Her brothers, Carmen and Joseph Porcaro, predeceased her. Also left behind is her precious friend and roommate for the last 4 years, Delores (Dee) Meredith who brought happiness and comfort to Pearl and her family.

Pearl was as direct as they come. She called an ace an ace and if you were fortunate to play poker with her, you understood. She loved to cook for her family, and her biggest meal of the year was Christmas Eve dinner which started promptly at 5:00 p.m., no exceptions. If late for any reason, you would face Pearl’s unleashed fury. It is rumored that many family members learned to curse from Pearl in both English and Italian. Pearl ran her vacuum daily at 5:00 a.m. no matter who was sleeping. In 2019, Pearl made her debut in the Canonsburg Fourth of July Parade as Townview’s honorary representative. She enjoyed bingo with friends, often questioning the outcome. This gracious lady and spitfire will be missed dearly.

Friends and family are welcome from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, February 2, 2022 in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra LFD owner/supervisor Erin E. Jones LFD 304 W.
