Richard L. “Rick” Henderson, 67, of Canonsburg passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2016 in his home.
He was born on November 5, 1948 in Washington, a son of the late Raymond and Iona Bert Henderson.
He was a 1966 graduate of Trinity High School. He then earned his Masters Degree in English from California University of Pennsylvania.
Mr. Henderson was a devoted teacher. He taught English at Chartiers-Houston High School and was the “Voice of the Bucs.” He retired in 2009 after many years of service. Rick was also a teller at the Meadows Racetrack and Casino for many years and retired in 2015.
Rick was an avid card player and also enjoyed reading, playing on the Meadows bowling league, watching movies, and listening to music. He was also an avid writer and has written numerous scripts, novels, and screenplays. Above all, he loved his family.
Mr. Henderson was strong in his faith. An active member of Canonsburg United Presbyterian Church, Mr. Henderson served as an elder and on numerous committees for many years. He enjoyed attending the Tuesday evening bible study with his wife, Jan.
On June 8, 1985 he married his beloved wife, Janice E. Emerick Henderson, who survives.
Also surviving are a loving son, Andrew R. (Jessica) Henderson of San Francisco, California; brothers, David “Skitch” (Kaye Baum) Henderson of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina and Thomas (Carol) Henderson of Pittsburgh; nieces and nephews, David Henderson of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Barbara Ronan of Irmo, South Carolina, Susan Henderson of California state, and Paul Henderson of Maryland state; and brother-in-law, Larry Emerick of Canonsburg.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, is a sister, Barbara Henderson, who passed away in infancy.
Friends are welcome from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor, Lin Webb funeral director, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg (724) 745-8120. A funeral service will begin at 10:00 AM on Thursday, July 28, 2016 in the Canonsburg United Presbyterian Church, 112 West Pike Street, Canonsburg with Rev. Don Coleman officiating. Everyone is asked to please meet at the church. Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Canonsburg United Presbyterian Church, 112 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, PA 15317.
