Samuel “Sammy” Rivera- Torres, age 89 of Canonsburg, passed away peacefully Monday April 8, 2024, in his home with his family by his side. He was born September 30, 1934, in Ponce, Puerto Rico, a son of the late Carlos Torres and Catalina Rivera. Mr. Torres received his bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez and proudly served with the United States Army. He and his family moved to Canonsburg from San Juan Puerto Rico in 2005. Sammy was employed for several decades as an accountant auditor with Walter E. Heller Finance Company. He was an avid sports fan and loved baseball most, especially the Pittsburgh Pirates. On June 23, 1962, he married Maria T. Torres who passed away February 19, 2010, after 47 years of marriage. Left behind to cherish his memory are his beloved children and grandchildren, Carlos Samuel (Annie Pizarro) Torres and their children, Charlene, Shanabys, Shalmei Torres and Juan Antonio and Anagelie Gonzalez, Enid Torres and her children Cathy Curry, Jean Carlo and Stephanie Mrosek, Eunice (Peter) Torres-Delmer and their son Ethan Linderman, great grandchildren, Yusef, Yaziel, Jeremiah, Nahima, Valentina, Thiago, Matias, Anina, Enzo, Elias Samuel, Rachel, Bailey and Elvis and many loving nieces and nephews. Sammy joins his siblings, Alicia, Matilde, Iris, Ruben, Ernesto and Jose Alberto, who have passed into Heaven. Sammy, your family is happy that you are in Heaven, free and painless, and they will always miss you. Sammy’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the staff at Amedisys Hospice for all the care they rendered to their dad during his time at home on Hospice care.
Full Military Honors by the VFW Post 191 Honor Guard of Canonsburg and the United States Army will be accorded at 11 am Monday April 29, 2024, in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Twp.
