Shirley Joan Carter Thomas age 91 of Canonsburg, passed away peacefully, Thursday, January 25, 2024, following a brief illness in Jefferson Memorial Hospital, West Mifflin with her family by her side. She was born August 25, 1932, in Westland, a daughter of the late Joseph and Bessie Mae Williams Carter. Shirley was a graduate of Cecil High School class of 1950 and lived most of her life in Canonsburg, where she was a member of St. Patrick Church of St. Oscar Romero Parish. Shirley had been employed, in her youth, at the former RCA Plant in Canonsburg and by her mother-in-law at the Thomas Convalescent Homes as a cook. She was an avid Pirates fan who enjoyed bingo, visiting the casino, going to her grandchildren’s sporting events and spending time with her family playing games with her grandchildren. On June 6, 1953, she married Ted Thomas who survives, after 70 years of marriage. Also left behind to cherish her memory are her beloved children, LuAnn (John A.) Svitek of Canonsburg, Susette (Clark R.) Charlier of Finleyville, Beth Ann Moyer (the late Chuck) of Canonsburg and Ted Thomas Jr. (Natalie) of Canonsburg,10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Thomas was the last of her immediate family. Deceased in addition to her parents is her grandson Dustin Thomas, sisters, Laverna Reeves, Donna Mastrangelo and Laura Kennedy and brothers, William, Thomas, George, Joseph, Calvin, Donald and Richard Carter.

Friends and family are welcome from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Monday January 29, 2024, in SALANDRA FUNERAL and CREMATION SERVICES, INC. Joseph P.
