William (Bill) Robert Martys

March 20, 1952 — January 19, 2026

William (Bill) Robert Martys, our dear son, brother, father, grandfather, co-worker and more left this world on January 19, 2026, at UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh. Bill was born and raised in Canonsburg Pa. and graduated from Canon-McMillian high school in1970. Following graduation from IUP Bill quickly found his calling in his life’s work by helping people in need. From ARC Manor to the Woods School, the American Red Cross to ultimately being the COO at Southwestern Human Services in Pittsburgh, Bill had a passion for helping underserved people, developing life changing programs, as well as lending an ear or sound advice to family and friends facing personal challenges. He truly did “God’s work” and the “ripples” of his labor will never fully be understood or acknowledged-----and he’d be okay with that. There were five beaming lights in Bill’s life: Evan, Emma, Will, Mae, Henry in which they all affectionately called “Pop-Pop Bill”. There were no other humans in Bill’s life that brought him more pride and joy. Pop-Pop Bill turned into “Teddy Turnpike” throughout the year to watch his grandchildren participate in all of their sporting events, 27 years of birthday parties, religious milestones and of course the annual highlight, Christmas with Pop-pop Bill. It was Christmas where he would spoil his grandchildren endlessly, even making Santa look cheap! Pop-pop made each and every event special for each one of his grandchildren. In Bill’s eyes, “No other grandchildren existed on the planet”. Bill was preceded in death by his parents John and Harriet Martys. He is survived by his daughter Kristin Barnett, son David Martys (wife Mary), brother John (Kathy Martys), sisters Helen (the late William Fries), and Carol (Mark Groom) and six nieces and nephews.
