William C. “Skiffy” Matyuf age 92 of Canonsburg passed away peacefully Monday January 14, 2019 in TownView Health and Rehabilitation Center Canonsburg. He was born January 5, 1927 in Canonsburg a son of the late John and Anna (Szap) Matyuf. Bill lived his life in Canonsburg where he had been a faithful member of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church. He had been a carpenter during his working career and was last employed by the DeBartola’s at the former Civic Arena in Pittsburgh until his retirement. Mr. Matyuf was a member of the Carpenters Union Local 142 of Pittsburgh. William had been a Member of the Russian Brotherhood Organization and served as auditor and passed vice president of RBO #247. Mr. Matyuf was an avid bowler, he as on the Federated Russian Orthodox Club (FROC PGH DIST) bowling league and Russian Club bowling team. He loved to watch Pittsburgh Pirates and Penguins games. On May 17, 1958 he married Dorothy Ogrodowski who passed away June 19, 2018. They were married for 60 years. Surviving is his devoted daughter Susan (Jay) Lesko of Washington, his beloved granddaughter Brittany N. Lesko of Washington and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Matyuf was the last of his immediate family. Deceased in addition to his wife and parents are his five brothers; Steve, John, Mike, Harry and Pete and four sisters; Mary Kacvinsky, Julie Spetek, Ann Puskarich and Eva Pirih.
Friends are welcome from 2-8pm Sunday, January 20, in St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church 601 Boone Avenue Canonsburg where Liturgy will be held at 10am Monday, January 21, 2019 with the Very Reverend Joseph Oleynik, Rector officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Spring Cemetery Canonsburg. Parastas services will be held at 7pm Sunday in church.
